Mr. Bennett’s practice is focused on intellectual property matters including: patent litigation; trademark litigation; licensing; and providing intellectual property counseling.


Mr. Bennett has represented clients, including Fortune 50 clients, in patent litigation trials (including six jury trials) involving asserting and defending against charges of patent infringement in the technological areas of internet and computer systems, software, electrical engineering, polymer chemistry (catalysts, processes, and plastics), mechanical engineering, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and agricultural products.

His trial experience includes jury trials in the United States District Courts for the Northern District of Illinois, District of Delaware, Eastern District of Pennsylvania, and the Southern District of Florida. Additional litigation experience includes patent litigation in the Eastern District of Texas, Northern District of Texas, Southern District of Texas, Northern District of California, District of Nebraska, and Western District of Wisconsin.


Mr. Bennett has also briefed and argued appeals before the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and arbitrations involving allegations of patent infringement and invalidity.


Mr. Bennett’s experience in client counseling includes extensive negotiation of licensing and settlement agreements, resulting in tens of millions of dollars in payments to his clients; providing clients with opinions on validity and infringement of patents; and analyzing the patent landscape for the purpose of entering a new market in fields including internet systems, electronic devices, software, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and polymer chemistry.

Mr. Bennett has also prosecuted numerous trademark and service mark applications, counseled clients on the licensing of registered and common law marks, and enforced marks through litigation and negotiations with accused infringers.

Prior to forming Direction IP Law, Mr. Bennett started the successful patent boutique, Bosy & Bennett.  Mr. Bennett was previously a partner in the Intellectual Property Department at Jenner & Block for over five years, which he joined in 2004 after practicing intellectual property law for seven years at Roper & Quigg, a nationally recognized intellectual property trial boutique.

Mr. Bennett is married and has four amazing children.
